You know that every product has
expiry date. But do you also know that even LPG cylinder has expiry date.
Not many are aware of the fact that
LPG cylinders have to be subjected to periodic statutory testing before they
are sent for refilling and subsequent distribution. Many cylinders are being
supplied to consumers without being subjected to statutory testing.
At times public oil and natural gas
companies and LPG cylinder distribution agencies supply refill gas in expired
cylinders, so please be aware of it and never fail to check the expiry date on
the LPG cylinder delivered to you every time.
When LPG cylinder supplier supplies
you expired cylinder, return the expired cylinder and complain about the same
to Food and Civil Supplies Department or the Controller of Explosives,
Government of India against the company to which the LPG cylinder belongs.
How to Check the Expiry date
of your LPG Cylinder?
The expiry of LPG Cylinder is
mentioned on one of the 3 supporting metal strips between body of cylinder and
round ring on top. It is painted on inner side as we can see in following
picture.
Expiry date contain either A, B, C
or D alphabet followed by a two digit number. Alphabet A represents quarter 1
from January to March, alphabet B represents quarter 2 from April to June,
alphabet C represents quarter 3 from July to September and alphabet D
represents quarter 4 from October to December, these quarters indicate that the
particular cylinder is subject to be expired in that quarter and should be sent
for statutory testing before it is refilled and supplied to customers. And now
the following two digit number indicates the year in which the cylinder
expires.
So here in this case the cylinder’s
expiry date is B-13. It means this cylinder expires in the second quarter of
the year 2013 by June after when this cylinder is not to be supplied to the
customers and must be subjected to statutory testing by the supplier.
Never forget to check your LPG
cylinder’s expiry date when it is delivered to you every time and ensure your
safety.
